Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Tuesday afternoon. This was the first meeting between the Prime Minister and the President at Bangabhaban since the president assumed office.

The prime minister arrived at Bangabhaban around 3:00 pm, where he was welcomed by the president. Following his arrival, senior officials of the President’s Office, including the Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary, were introduced to the prime minister.

During the meeting, Tarique briefed the president on various aspects of his visit to the United States.

This included his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as well as sideline meetings with heads of state and government from various countries, the UN Secretary-General, top UN officials, and senior representatives of international economic and development partner organisations.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir extended his heartfelt congratulations to the prime minister for his historic address at the 81st UNGA session, describing the speech as “visionary, resolute, and direction-setting.”

The president noted that the address reflected Bangladesh’s national interests and the hopes and aspirations of its people, while clearly highlighting the country’s stance on key global issues.

Fakhrul added that the visit played an important role in further consolidating and strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the international arena and protecting public interest. He noted that the trip contributed significantly towards expanding and strengthening both bilateral and multilateral relations.

In addition, both leaders discussed various matters of national and state interest. Fakhrul expressed his sincere thanks to Tarique for visiting Bangabhaban.
