Six emerging filmmakers from six countries have joined the 52nd session of La Résidence du Festival de Cannes in Paris, where they will spend six months developing their first or second feature-length fiction films.
The new cohort brings together three women and three men, aged 27 to 35. Five are developing their debut features, while their backgrounds span very different approaches to cinema.
Catalan filmmaker Anna Llargués Muñoz presented her debut short, Trenc d’alba (Crack of Dawn), at La Cinef during the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The fiction film blends digital footage, Super 8 and archive material.
Lithuanian director and cinematographer Vytautas Katkus, based in Vilnius, works across fiction and documentary and is developing his second feature.
Filipino filmmaker Sam Manacsa works across several disciplines and has contributed to the production design of several films.
Malaysian filmmaker of Tamil descent Ananth Subramaniam directed Bleat!, the first Malaysian short selected for Cannes, at the 2025 Critics’ Week.
Argentine screenwriter-director Agustina Sánchez Gavier, based in Germany, saw her graduation film Nuestra Sombra (Our Own Shadow) screen at more than 70 international festivals.
Belgian filmmaker Dorian Jespers, trained at Le Fresnoy among other institutions, has directed two shorts that have screened at more than 200 festivals worldwide.
