Veteran actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty is set to return to the screen in a new project directed by Sandip Ray and based on selected short stories by Satyajit Ray.
Sabyasachi, best known to generations of Bengali audiences for playing Feluda after Soumitra Chatterjee, will reunite with Sandip Ray, who directed him in several Feluda projects and other productions. The actor eventually stepped away from the iconic detective role.
Sandip Ray has previously adapted his father’s short stories for television through projects including Satyajit-er Priyo Golpo and Satyajit-er Goppo. His new project will also draw from Satyajit Ray’s short fiction.
Details of the production remain under wraps. The makers have yet to decide whether it will be made for television, an OTT platform or another medium. The specific Ray story and the character Sabyasachi will play have also not been revealed.
According to reports, production could begin towards the end of this year if the plans remain on schedule.
Sabyasachi was most recently seen in the Advocate Achinta Aich franchise, where he played a lawyer opposite Ritwick Chakraborty.
The actor first played Feluda in Sandip Ray’s Baksho Rahashya in 1996. He later reprised the character in several films, including Bombaiyer Bombete and Double Feluda.
