Actress Tanjin Tisha has secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court in a case alleging fraud and breach of trust over a saree worth Tk 28,800. The court also extended her bail and deferred the hearing on framing charges in the case.
Tisha surrendered before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin’s court at around noon on Tuesday (29 September) and sought bail. After hearing her application, the court granted the relief. The court had also scheduled the hearing on framing charges for the same day, but deferred it.
Speaking to journalists outside the court, Tisha said she had been accused of misappropriating a saree worth Tk 28,800. “I have a 15-year career. It is not desirable for anyone to come to court over a saree. I came because I respect the law,” she said.
Tisha denied the allegations, describing several claims in the case as false. “I did not misappropriate the saree or commit any fraud,” she said.
She claimed the saree had been given to her as a gift. “She gave me the saree saying it was a gift. I said I would wear it, take pictures and post them. I may have forgotten,” Tisha said.
She further alleged that the complainant, a woman, had used her husband’s influence to file the case against her. Tisha also claimed that she had received various threats.
The case stems from allegations that Tisha took a saree worth Tk 28,800 from online fashion page ‘Aponia’ after promising to promote it and pay its price, but later stopped communicating with the page. Aponia administrator Aminul Islam filed the case in 2025, accusing her of fraud and breach of trust.
Following the filing, the court recorded the complainant’s statement and directed the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate the allegations and submit a report. After completing the investigation, the DB submitted a report stating that it had found preliminary evidence supporting the allegations against Tisha. The court later took cognisance of the report and issued a summons directing her to appear.
Tisha had earlier surrendered before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana’s court on 13 August and secured bail. Her lawyer, Nihar Hossain Faruk, had sought bail on her behalf. The court granted the application after hearing the matter.
Before that, on 12 July, the court took cognisance of the DB investigation report and issued the summons requiring Tisha to appear before it. The case now proceeds with the hearing on framing charges deferred.
