Six more dengue-related deaths were reported across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,942 new patients were hospitalised with the viral fever.

With the latest casualties, the total dengue death toll in the country this year has reached 239, while overall hospital admissions have climbed to 77,672.

The latest figures were released on Tuesday in a press notification issued by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to DGHS data, September has recorded the highest prevalence of dengue so far this year. A total of 41,826 patients have been admitted to hospitals and 142 deaths have been reported during this month alone.

Over the last 24 hours, 1,751 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals. At present, 5,425 dengue patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals nationwide.

Of the six deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, three occurred in hospitals outside city corporation areas in Rajshahi Division. In addition, one death each was reported from Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, and a hospital outside city corporation areas in Dhaka Division.

Among the 1,942 newly admitted patients, the highest count—378 patients—was recorded in hospitals outside city corporation areas of Dhaka Division. This was followed by 301 admissions in Dhaka North City Corporation, 264 in Khulna Division, 229 in Barishal Division, 213 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 197 in Rajshahi Division, 178 in Chattogram Division, 120 in Mymensingh Division, 56 in Rangpur Division, and six in Sylhet Division.

Demographic data for total cases this year reveals that 48,228 patients are male and 29,203 are female, meaning men account for 62.3 per cent and women 37.7 per cent of total infections.

However, fatalities are higher among women. Of the total 239 deaths, 126 were female and 112 were male, while gender information for one deceased patient was not specified.

By age distribution, individuals aged between 16 and 30 years have been the most affected by dengue this year. Among the fatalities, 30 victims were aged 26 to 30 years, and 23 were aged 36 to 40 years.
