Two more people died from suspected measles across the country in the 24 hours to 8am on 1 October, although no confirmed measles deaths occurred during this period.

In the same period, 1,132 people were identified as suspected measles patients, while 82 new confirmed cases were recorded.

This information was released in a health press bulletin on 1 October by Integrated Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the bulletin, these figures cover the 24-hour period from 8am on 30 September to 8am on 1 October.

According to the report, a total of 1,92,863 suspected measles patients have been identified nationwide between 15 March and 1 October this year. Of these, 21,602 cases have been confirmed as measles.

During this cumulative period, 1,70,877 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,63,973 patients were discharged.

In the 24-hour reporting period, 1,077 patients were admitted to hospitals and 1,100 patients were discharged. Two suspected measles deaths were recorded during this period, with one death reported in Sylhet division and the other in Chattogram division.

According to DGHS data, while no confirmed measles deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, the cumulative death toll from suspected measles since 15 March has reached 1,009. Out of these, 101 deaths have been confirmed to be caused by measles.

A divisional breakdown shows that Dhaka recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours with 417, followed by Chattogram 243, Sylhet 123, Barishal 116, Khulna 103, Mymensingh 80, Rajshahi 28, and Rangpur 22.

During the same 24-hour period, Dhaka also registered the highest number of confirmed measles cases with 74. Additionally, five confirmed cases were detected in Chattogram, two in Khulna, and one in Sylhet.

Meanwhile, under this year’s National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, a total of 2,01,85,747 individuals have been vaccinated against a target of 1,80,15,064, bringing the national vaccination rate to 112 per cent.
