Nine more people died of dengue across Bangladesh in the 24 hours till 8am on Monday, while 1,902 new patients were hospitalised with the fever.
With the latest fatalities, the total death toll from dengue this year has risen to 271. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released these statistics in its daily dengue situation report published on Monday based on data up to 8am.
According to the DGHS, out of the 1,902 newly admitted patients, 1,141 were males and 761 females, accounting for 60 per cent male and 40 per cent female admissions. During the same period, 1,988 patients were discharged from hospitals.
Among the newly admitted patients, individuals aged 26-30 formed the largest group with 266 patients, followed by 253 aged 21-25, 250 aged 16-20, 176 aged 31-35, and 170 aged 36-40.
Of the nine deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, five were men and four were women. By age breakdown, the deceased included two aged 21-25, two aged 41-45, and one each from the 26-30, 31-35, 46-50, and 51-55 age brackets.
Since 1 January, a total of 88,360 people have been hospitalised with dengue nationwide, of whom 82,335 have been discharged. Currently, 5,754 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country. Of the overall 271 total deaths this year, 128 were male and 139 were female.
Regionally, City Corporation areas recorded 68,208 hospitalisations this year (43,367 males and 24,644 females), while 19,786 patients were admitted outside City Corporation areas.
In Dhaka city, 309 patients were admitted to government and autonomous hospitals and 123 to private hospitals and clinics over the last 24 hours, taking the capital’s new admission total to 432. Currently, 1,317 dengue patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka’s hospitals.
