Three more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8am on Sunday, taking the country’s combined toll from confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1,125 this year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified all three latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths. No confirmed measles deaths were reported during the period, reports UNB.

The number of suspected measles deaths has now risen to 1,023, while confirmed deaths remain unchanged at 102.

A total of 1,218 new suspected cases were reported during the 24-hour period, pushing the nationwide tally of suspected infections to 196,418.

Meanwhile, 82 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 21,748.

Since 15 March, a total of 174,149 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 166,908 have recovered, according to the DGHS.
