Ten more people died of dengue across Bangladesh in 24 hours, while 1,996 new patients were admitted to hospitals with the mosquito-borne fever.
The figures were released by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), covering data compiled between 8am on 5 October and 8am on 6 October.
According to the report, a total of 90,356 dengue patients have been hospitalised nationwide since 1 January this year, with the total death toll rising to 281.
To date, 84,299 patients have been discharged following treatment, while 5,776 remain hospitalised across the country.
Of the 1,996 patients hospitalised in the last 24 hours, 1,235 (61.9 per cent) were male and 761 (38.1 per cent) female.
Among the 10 fatalities recorded during the same period, four were male and six female.
On a divisional and municipal level, the highest number of new hospital admissions in the past 24 hours occurred in Dhaka.
Dhaka North City Corporation reported 480 new cases, Dhaka South City Corporation recorded 242, and areas in Dhaka Division outside the city corporations registered 302 cases.
Elsewhere across the country, Barishal Division reported 203 new admissions, Rajshahi 199, Chattogram 194, Khulna 187, Mymensingh 96, Rangpur 75, and Sylhet 18.
Regarding latest fatalities, two occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation, one in Dhaka South City Corporation, and two in Dhaka Division outside the city corporation areas.
In addition, Rajshahi Division recorded three deaths, while Khulna Division and Barishal Division reported one death each.
Demographic distribution for the year so far indicates that males account for 62.3 per cent of total dengue admissions and females 37.7 per cent.
Conversely, females account for 52.3 per cent of total dengue fatalities, compared to 47.7 per cent for males.
The areas with the highest cumulative hospital admissions this year are Dhaka North City Corporation with 15,984 cases, Dhaka South City Corporation with 13,656 cases, and Dhaka Division (outside city corporation areas) with 9,803 cases.
