Dengue outbreak in Bangladesh continues to escalate, with six more deaths recorded from the mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours.

With these latest casualties, the total death toll from dengue in the country this year has risen to 262. During the same 24-hour period, 2,089 new patients were admitted to hospital with dengue.

This information was released in the regular dengue update by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

According to the DGHS data, two dengue-related deaths occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation area in the last 24 hours. Additionally, three fatalities were reported outside city corporation limits in Khulna, and one death was recorded in Mymensingh.

The influx of new patients has further increased the pressure on hospitals across the country. To address the situation, stakeholders concerned are emphasising the necessity of taking effective measures to curb the spread of mosquitoes.
