The body of a fisherman was recovered on Wednesday after a boat sank following a collision with a bulkhead in Itna upazila of Kishoreganj.
The deceased was identified as Arun Das, 22, son of Kanu Das of Thakurhati under Dhanpur Union of the upazila.
His body was recovered around 10:30am from Natun Khal, located between Baksai and Shilundia in the union.
Sourav Das, a local resident, said that Arun and his elder brother Sagar Das were fishing from a small boat on the Dhanu River, east of Shilundia village, on Monday afternoon.
At that time, a bulkhead travelling from Bajitpur towards Sunamganj struck their boat, causing it to sink. Sagar managed to swim ashore, but Arun went missing. Locals conducted searches in various ways but failed to trace him.
Inspector Jamal Hossain, in-charge of Dhanpur River Police Outpost, confirmed the matter.
He said police rushed to the spot after being informed by local residents and recovered the body. It was sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj for an autopsy.
The bulkhead involved in the incident has been seized, and five people on board have been detained. Necessary legal action will be taken after an investigation, he added.
