Rangpur-born model Snigdha Chowdhury is set to make her film debut this Eid with the upcoming release ‘Pressure Cooker’, directed by Raihan Rafi.
Snigdha, who has been working as a model since 2018, has appeared in billboard campaigns, ramp shows and international fashion events, gradually making a name for herself in the industry. Now, she is stepping into cinema with a story that focuses on women’s empowerment.
Speaking about how she landed the role, Snigdha revealed that Rafi had shared the plot with her a year and a half ago, and she had auditioned at the time. “When he finally decided to make the film, I was on Umrah with my family. Rafi sent me a text saying the story would focus on four girls, and asked if I was interested. I was overjoyed and agreed immediately,” she said. She added that she then spent a month training in Rafi’s office, with the support of the entire team.
Pressure Cooker tells the story of four women who come to Dhaka from different parts of the country, navigating challenges in their professions, love lives and personal experiences.
“I believe every girl who comes to Dhaka from the countryside will relate to this story. I am always in favour of women’s empowerment. I am not only thrilled that this is my first film, but even happier that it carries such an important message,” Snigdha said.
She also expressed enthusiasm about the Eid release. “I do not feel disappointed that there is no hero in the film. On the contrary, I am excited that my debut comes during Eid. Usually, I would be preparing for Eid shopping, but this time my focus is entirely on acting. I tried my best, followed the director’s guidance, and now the audience will decide.”
Snigdha also shared her hopes for the future, noting the ongoing discussion of a heroine shortage in Bangladeshi cinema. “If newcomers like me do not become regulars, how can this be addressed? I am optimistic that established actors will welcome new talent, and I am eager to see how audiences respond. I plan to work on more films in the future.”
Pressure Cooker also features Shobnom Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, and Mariya Shanta. Produced by Impress Telefilm and Kakon Films, the movie is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release in theatres nationwide this Eid-ul-Fitr.
