Actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu has recorded a new version of the classic song ‘Amay Bhashaili Re’ for the Bangladeshi film ‘Mastul’, as the makers prepare to launch the movie’s promotional campaign ahead of its release on July 17.
The film, directed by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, is centred on the lives of river workers and people living on the water. According to the director, the team selected the song because of its strong connection to the film’s themes and atmosphere.
Nuruzzaman said the filmmakers had initially considered creating an original song for the project. However, during discussions, the name of ‘Amay Bhashaili Re’, a celebrated work by folk poet Jasim Uddin, repeatedly emerged and was eventually chosen by consensus.
The new musical arrangement has been created by Labik Kamal Gaurob.
The director said the team also felt that Babu’s voice was the most suitable choice for the song. In addition to singing the track, Babu plays a significant character in the film.
The cast also includes Deepak Suman, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Arif Hasan and Sifat Bannya, among others.
‘Mastul’ had its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival last year before being screened at several international festivals, where it received positive responses. Despite obtaining clearance for release, the film was unable to reach cinemas for an extended period because of financial difficulties.
The production team has now confirmed that the film will be released in cinemas across Bangladesh on July 17.
Nuruzzaman said the official promotional campaign for ‘Mastul’ will begin with the release of ‘Amay Bhashaili Re’ in the middle of this month.
