Star Cineplex, the country’s leading multiplex chain, is set to take over and resume operations of the popular ‘Silver Screen’ theatre in Chattogram, ending months of anticipation for local moviegoers.
Launched in 2018, Silver Screen had been a fan favorite until it closed its doors following the events of August 5, 2024. In a press release issued on Thursday (March 19), Star Cineplex confirmed that the facility, located on the 6th floor of the Finlay Square shopping mall at the city’s 2 No. Gate area, will now be rebranded and operated under their banner.
The multiplex features two halls with seating capacities of 72 and 16, respectively. According to the authorities, the branch is scheduled to open to the public this upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
This will mark Star Cineplex’s second branch in the port city, following the 2022 launch of its first outlet at the Bali Arcade Shopping Complex in Chawkbazar.
Known for its aesthetic ambiance, state-of-the-art sound systems, and giant screens, Star Cineplex has become the go-to destination for cinema lovers in Bangladesh. In addition to the Chattogram expansion, the company is also set to inaugurate a new branch in Narayanganj this Eid.
Currently, Star Cineplex operates multiple branches in the capital, including- Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Shimanto Shumbhar (formerly Rifles Square), SKS Tower, Military Museum, Mirpur-1.
The chain is also working on new branches in Bogura and other cities, with further expansion plans within Dhaka.
Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, AGM of Media and Marketing at Star Cineplex, stated that after establishing a presence in major cities, the company aims to gradually expand to district and upazila levels across the country.
