Two people, including the owner of an internet service provider, sustained burn injuries when an air conditioner (AC) exploded at their office in the capital’s Gendaria on Sunday evening.
The victims were identified as Kazi Faisal, 41, owner of High Range Internet, and his friend Amir Hossain, 38. Following the incident, they were immediately rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The accident took place at around 6:45pm at the High Range Internet office, located beside Gendaria High School.
According to Ahmed Rafi, an employee of the establishment, Amir Hossain – who runs a clothing business in Islampur – had come to his friend’s office in the evening to chat. Suddenly, the AC inside the room exploded, leaving both men burned.
Various equipment and cables were also burnt in the blast. Upon receiving information, Fire Service personnel went to the spot.
Dr Sultan Ahmed, resident surgeon at the emergency department of the burn institute, stated that Kazi Faisal sustained seven percent burn injuries, while Amir Hossain suffered 16 percent burns. Both victims are currently receiving treatment in the emergency department.
