Assistant teachers of government primary schools continued their demonstration for the third consecutive day on Monday, pressing for their three-point demands, including a pay scale upgrade to Grade 10.
They are currently staging a sit-in at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
Around 6:30pm on Sunday, a delegation of nine teachers including Abul Kashem, Shamsuddin Masud, Mahbubur Rahman, and Khairun Nahar Lipi attended a meeting at the Secretariat as representatives of the protesting teachers.

Following the meeting, the teachers announced the withdrawal of their work abstention. However, they said that the sit-in programme will continue.
The teachers are scheduled to meet again at 5pm on Monday. If a favourable decision is reached in that meeting, the protest will be withdrawn. Otherwise, they have warned of a tougher movement.
The three demands include salary and benefits under the 10th grade, higher grade after 10 and 16 years of service, and guaranteed 100% promotion to the head teacher position.
On Saturday, four teachers’ organisations jointly launched the sit-in under the banner of the “Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council”.
