Government primary school teachers have been staging a sit-in protest at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, demanding implementation of their three-point demands, including the 10th-grade pay scale.
Simultaneously, they began a full-day work abstention across schools nationwide on Sunday, also demanding resignation of two advisers.
The teachers were seen scattered across the area, sitting and standing in groups around 12pm.
On Saturday, police attacked the protesting teachers at Shahbagh, leaving more than 200 teachers injured. In response to the incident, the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council called for the resignation of Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.
A press release signed by the teachers’ leader Mohammad Shamsuddin Masud has been issued.

Leaders of the protest platform “Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council” were seen escorting the five assistant teachers from the police station around 12:30pm.

The teachers are Mahbubur Rahman, Nurul Islam Liton, Shariful Islam, Abdul Kader, and Sohel.
One of the teacher leaders, Zakir Hossain, who was present at the scene, said that five teachers had been unconditionally released from Shahbagh Police Station. They have now joined the sit-in protest at the Central Shaheed Minar, he added.
