At least nine students were injured in a clash between students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall and Bishwokobi Rabindranath Tagore Hall at Jahangirnagar University over a dispute regarding shop ownership.
The incident occurred around 2:30pm on Monday in the area adjacent to Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
According to eyewitnesses, a dispute had been ongoing for several days between students of the two halls over the ownership of six shops situated in front of Nazrul Hall.

Considering the location of the hall, students of Nazrul Hall demanded to keep the shops under their control.
On the other hand, students of Rabindranath Tagore Hall were unwilling to relinquish ownership of the shops.
This led to a heated altercation and tension between the two sides on Monday afternoon, which eventually escalated into a clash.
During the confrontation, fights, chases, and counter-chases took place, leaving nine students injured.

Upon receiving news of the clash, members of the university administration and the proctorial body rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, and sent the students of both halls back to their respective residential halls.
Speaking on the incident, Assistant Proctor of the university Dr Abdus Sattar Joy said, “Students of both halls have been sent back to their respective halls. Currently, the situation is peaceful. A logical solution regarding the ownership of the shops will be worked out later through discussions between the administration of both halls and the university administration.”
