Amid discussions over seat-sharing ahead of the upcoming national election, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is set to be a voter in Dhaka-10 parliamentary constituency.
Asif, former coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement, will submit his application for voter registration at Dhanmondi Thana Election Office on Sunday afternoon, according to the ministry sources.
The Dhaka-10 constituency comprises Dhanmondi, New Market, Kalabagan, and Hazaribagh police station areas.
While the BNP has yet to announce a candidate for this seat, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Supreme Court lawyer Jashim Uddin Sarkar as its candidate.
Previously, Asif was a registered voter in Cumilla-3 constituency, which includes Muradnagar upazila. There had been speculation that he might contest from that seat.
However, recent political discussions indicate that he could resign from his advisory position and run for office from Dhaka-10 if a seat-sharing deal with the BNP is reached.
BNP’s delay in announcing a candidate has further fueled the speculation, which now appears more likely following his move to register as a voter in Dhaka-10.
