Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has condemned the police action against protesting primary school teachers and called on the government to accept their demands through dialogue.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he said it is the government’s responsibility to consider and accept the teachers’ three-point demand and bring an end to the ongoing protest.
The use of sound grenades and water cannons during the demonstration reportedly left over a hundred teachers injured, he said.
“This is both unexpected and painful. Teachers are the architects of the nation. They deserve more tolerant treatment,” he added.
As annual exams approach, any disruption in the education system will affect students. Damage to education is an irreparable loss for any nation, Porwar said.
