Bangladesh women moved into the Asian Games cricket semi-finals on Thursday after rain and a wet outfield ended their quarter-final against China without a ball being bowled.
The match was scheduled to start at 6:00am Bangladesh Standard Time at Korogi Sports Park. However, the conditions were not good enough for play and even the toss could not take place.
There was no rain in the morning. But heavy rain over the previous few days had left several parts of the ground wet.
The umpires inspected the field several times. The ground staff also tried to prepare the surface for play.
After a long wait, the officials decided that the match could not go ahead. Bangladesh then qualified for the semi-finals because of their higher ranking under the competition rules.
It means Nigar Sultana Joty and her team reached the last four without having to take the field against China.
Bangladesh had also faced problems with their preparation because of the weather. Rain had stopped the team from completing a full training session before the match.
Weather also played a major role in cricket at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou. Several matches were affected by rain during that competition.
