Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has destroyed over 600 water jars belonging to two establishments in Arambagh, Motijheel, for supplying water in unhygienic containers and marketing water without BSTI quality certification.
The jars were destroyed during a special surveillance operation conducted by BSTI on Monday.
During the drive, BSTI officials found that the establishments were supplying water in dirty jars without maintaining hygiene standards. They were also marketing water without obtaining the required quality certification.
BSTI said supplying drinking water under unhygienic conditions and without proper quality control poses risks to public health and consumer safety.
BSTI Director General (Secretary) Kazi Imdadul Hoque said the organisation regularly conducts market monitoring and surveillance operations to ensure the quality of products and protect consumer interests.
He said BSTI would continue taking legal action against adulterated and sub-standard products. Alongside issuing quality certificates, the organisation maintains surveillance to prevent counterfeiting and adulteration, he added.
The BSTI chief advised consumers to check the BSTI quality mark, licence number, manufacturing date, expiry date, product ingredients and other relevant details before purchasing any product.
