Md Shakawath Hossain, CEO of Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC, has received copyright registration from Bangladesh Copyright Office under the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for his intellectual work, “Shakawath’s Six Control Points for Food Cost Optimization.”
Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC is the owning company of The Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka, and HANSA – A Premium Residence.
Innovated and developed by Shakawath from his extensive 25-plus years of experience in hospitality operations, the framework introduces a practical and measurable approach to food cost management.
The system focuses on six key areas: Purchase Control, Inventory Control, Right Transfer, Portion Control, Appropriate Cooking, and Wastage Control.
It unites Purchasing, Receiving, Stores, Cost Control, Finance, Culinary, and Food and Beverage Service together under a single integrated system.
Since its implementation across The Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka, and HANSA – A Premium Residence in 2023, the framework has heightened cost awareness and contributed to approximately Tk2 crore in food-cost savings across the three hotels.
Leaders, department heads, and relevant team members from all three properties have been actively involved in its execution to deliver measurable improvements in food cost control and savings.
In addition to industry operations, the Six Control Points framework has been incorporated into the academic curriculum of Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Dhaka.
Plans are currently underway to introduce the model across other academic and professional training platforms to assist future hospitality professionals in learning practical food cost management.
The framework also advances sustainability by enabling hotels to purchase according to actual needs, manage inventory, balance portions, follow proper cooking methods, and reduce food wastage, thereby supporting long-term cost savings while maintaining food quality, service standards, and guest satisfaction.
Commenting on the milestone, Shakawath said, “This copyright recognition is an important milestone for the Six Control Points initiative. We are now working to take it nationwide across all areas of Bangladesh’s hospitality sector. We are also working to align it with International hotel brands to explore its future implementation across the globe.”
The copyright registration formally recognises the innovation as Shakawath’s original work, establishing a stronger foundation for its broader adoption across the hospitality and education sectors.
