Five people, including a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, were injured in an explosion at a gas plant of a gas filling station in Bogura on Saturday.
The explosion occurred at around 1:15pm at Otithi Filling Station in the Tinmatha Chhotobelail area along the Dhaka-Bogura highway.
Filling station officials and local residents said the explosion occurred suddenly inside the gas plant’s supply line.
The blast ripped apart the plant’s canopy and damaged its boundary wall, tank and other structures. The loud explosion also caused panic in the surrounding area. Several auto-rickshaws were parked at the station for refuelling when the explosion occurred. Some of the vehicles were damaged by the subsequent fire.
Five people, including auto-rickshaw drivers, were injured in the incident.
Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control.
Three of the injured, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were rescued and taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.
Bogura Fire Service Station In-Charge Shahidul Islam said the explosion occurred at the gas refilling point.
He said the initial estimate put the damage at around Tk15 lakh, although the figure could rise after a full assessment.
Otithi Filling Station Manager Sanowar Hossain said they could not immediately determine what caused the explosion.
He said the matter was being investigated.
