A major fire broke out at a readymade garment factory belonging to Priti Group in Dada Market area at Jamgara Chowrasta in Jamgara, under the industrial area of Ashulia, at 6:45pm on Sunday.
Four units of Fire Service reached the scene, and no casualties have been reported so far. However, the loud sound of a boiler explosion shattered the thai glass windows of several neighbouring buildings.
Confirming the news of the fire, Jirabo Modern Fire Service Senior Station Officer Shahabuddin said they arrived at the spot after a long delay navigating traffic congestion and road conditions.
He added that fire-fighting operations have commenced, though further details could not be disclosed at the moment.
Speaking over the phone, Priti Group lineman Liton Mia said urgent shipment work was in progress at their factory. Following the Maghrib prayer, a sudden fire triggered widespread panic, prompting everyone to rush downstairs.
Liton Mia confirmed that a boiler had exploded, although he was unable to explain how the fire started.
Four units – comprising Jirabo Modern Fire Service, DEPZ, Savar, and Uttara Fire Service – are actively working to control the fire.
DEPZ Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Somen Barua confirmed the incident, mentioning that they received news of the fire at around 6:50pm.
He noted that due to heavy traffic on Bypail road, they arrived at the scene late, at 8pm, after which they initiated fire-fighting operations.
