The central committee of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal has expelled eight leaders and activists of its Jagannath University (JnU) unit and served a show-cause notice to a joint convener on charges of breaching organisational discipline.
These decisions were approved on Sunday by Chhatra Dal Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. The disciplinary actions were formally communicated in separate press releases signed by Central Office Secretary Md Jahangir Alam.
The expelled individuals are JnU Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Sabuj Shahriar, members Md. Israfil Islam Rafil, Masum Reza, Yasin Saif, Imran Hossain Emon, Moniruzzaman Monir, and Md. Souravur Rahman Sujon, along with student leader Kabya Saha.
Among them, the first seven were relieved of their organisational posts, while Kabya Saha was expelled from primary membership of the organisation.
Meanwhile, Joint Convener Nahiyan Bin Haque Anik was served a show-cause notice. He has been directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours detailing why permanent organisational disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The notice requires him to submit the explanation in person at the organisation’s central office in Naya Paltan in the presence of the central president and general secretary.
This disciplinary actions follow a clash between two factions of the student organisation over a freshers’ reception ceremony at Jagannath University on 16 September.
The clash occurred around 12:30am in the university’s Kathaltala area, leaving several people injured.
Additionally, on 20 September, a fresh clash broke out between supporters of JnU Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin and Joint Convener Nahiyan Bin Haque Anik over a Facebook post, leaving at least three people injured.
