Forest Department officials have rescued an injured Grey-headed fish eagle, a rare species, from Dasar upazila in Madaripur.
Locals spotted the injured bird in an abandoned jungle in the Pathuriarpar area of Baligram union on Saturday morning and informed the Forest Department. A team later rescued the eagle.
Madaripur Acting Forest Officer Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the rescue on Sunday afternoon.
The eagle had a wound on its right wing and could not fly. It was taken to the District Livestock Office, where medicine was applied and an antibiotic injection was given. The bird is now being kept in a cage at the Forest Office and fed fish and meat.
Jahangir said the Grey-headed fish eagle is rarely seen in Madaripur and surrounding areas.
He said treatment is continuing under the joint supervision of the District Livestock Office and Forest Department.
“If the bird recovers and is able to fly following treatment, it will be released in an open area in Madaripur,” he said.
“If it does not recover, it will be sent to the Wildlife Conservation Office of the Khulna Forest Department.”
