A woman and her eight‑month‑old niece were stabbed to death in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla on Monday morning.
The woman’s sister‑in‑law, Rabeya Begum, was injured in the attack while attempting to intervene.
One of the deceased was Peara Begum, while the baby’s name could not be confirmed.
The incident took place around 8:30am at the residence of Mostafa Master in Dakhhin Para of Barashalghar village.
Following the attack, locals caught Peara’s son Emon, 24, red‑handed and locked him inside a room.
Debidwar Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge (OC) Md Moniruzzaman said, “We immediately reached the scene. Preliminary reports suggest the accused, Emon, had been ill for a long time. However, the exact reason behind this killing has not yet been confirmed.”
“The matter will be clarified after conducting an investigation,” he added.
