A group of youths stormed Daudkandi Model Police Station on Wednesday evening, allegedly snatching 17 detainees and vandalising chairs and tables.
The incident reportedly followed a drive against juvenile gangs conducted by the police station, during which around 50 teenagers and young men were detained.
A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the intruders’ behaviour as “terrifying”.
He said they entered the station chanting slogans before taking away the detainees.
Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-charge Sajedul Islam denied that any such incident had taken place.
A video showing the alleged attack and vandalism at the police station has since circulated on social media.
Meanwhile, police in Cumilla detained 624 people during a simultaneous anti-gang operation in areas under 18 police stations from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.
Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfor Rahman said legal action would be taken after verifying the backgrounds of those detained.
