Khurshid Alam has completed six decades in Bangla music. Over his long career, the singer has lent his voice to numerous films, with songs such as ‘Chumki Choleche Eka Pothe’, ‘O Duti Noyone Swapne Chayone’, ‘E Akashke Sakshi Rekhe’, ‘Ajke Na Hoy Bhalobasho’, ‘Churi Korecho Amar Monta’, ‘O Chokhe Chokh Poreche Jakhoni’, ‘O Anupama O Nirupama’, ‘Pakhir Bashar Moto Duti Chokh Tomar’, ‘Prem Korecho Tumi Mon Diyechi Ami’, ‘Chupi Chupi Bolo Keu Jene Jabe’ and ‘Jodi Bou Sajogo’ becoming popular with audiences.
To mark his 60-year journey in music, the Television Journalists Forum of Bangladesh (TJFB) organised a reception titled ‘Sur-er Jibonto Kingbodonti Konthoshilpi Khurshid Alam-er Sangeeter 60 Bochor’ at Hotel InterContinental in the capital on Friday afternoon.
Celebrated singer Syed Abdul Hadi and several musicians from the younger generation attended the event to congratulate Khurshid Alam. The Liberation War Affairs Minister attended as chief guest, while the State Minister for Culture was present as special guest.
Speaking about Khurshid’s musical journey, Syed Abdul Hadi said, “Khurshid Alam created a new trend in Bangla music. Listeners found freshness and liveliness in his singing. Khurshid is a simple and friendly person. I wish him good health and hope his vibrant spirit lives on forever.”
Reflecting on his career, Khurshid Alam said, “Six decades in the world of music have passed before I even realised it. Sometimes I am amazed that so many years have gone by in what feels like a moment. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have started singing when the golden era of Bangla music in Bangladesh was beginning. As a result, several popular songs in my voice are still heard by music lovers in Bangladesh.”
He added, “Even today, the love and respect people show me on the streets and wherever I go truly move me. I am sincerely grateful to the listeners of Bangla music. I thank the organisers of today’s event.”
Khurshid Alam also thanked TJFB president Redwan Khandaker for organising the celebration. “His sincerity and humility deeply touched me. Because of him, this special event marking my 60-year journey will remain memorable in my life,” he said.
Across his six-decade career, Khurshid Alam has established a distinctive place in film music. His songs continue to remain familiar and popular with listeners.
