Presenter and dancer Ruhani Salsabil, also known to many as Labannya, has taken on the role of a judge for the Dhaka division’s dance competition at Shapla Kuri 2026.
A former champion in Manipuri dance at the National Children and Youth Competition, Ruhani has previously served as a judge at several national-level dance competitions. Sitting on the judging panel for Shapla Kuri also brought back memories of her childhood.
“I used to travel from Bogura to Dhaka with Mamoni to take part in competitions. As a child, I had the opportunity to have the great Bharatanatyam artiste Belayet Sir as a judge. Today, I sat beside him as a judge for a dance competition. I also performed to the song ‘Hridoy Amar Nachere Ajike’ in my teacher Sohag Sir’s choreography during the BTV enlistment audition in 2010. We recalled many memories from those days,” Ruhani said.
She was impressed by the dancing skills of children from the current generation. “Children today are more skilled at dancing than we were at their age. Judging them was very difficult. I wish everyone the best,” she said.
Ruhani said the final competition of Shapla Kuri 2026 will be held soon.
Meanwhile, she has reduced her television presenting work compared with previous years. She is currently hosting Celebrity Show on BTV, Catch the Star on an online platform, Safes Studio on RTV, Sign On on SATV and Star Lounge on Desh TV. She also recently hosted a corporate event at the Radisson and is scheduled to host another programme next Tuesday.
Ruhani said organisers are currently inviting her more frequently to host programmes in English, although she continues to receive regular offers for Bengali programmes as well.
Alongside presenting and dancing, Ruhani is also an architect and continues to work at her own office. However, she said her family remains her top priority. Her biggest dream now revolves around her only child, Shirsho, and she wants to raise him to become a good human being.
