Seven years after its original run, Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed the top spot at the North American box office with its re-release, Avengers: Endgame Encore.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel film earned $11.2 million from 3,060 screens on Friday and could reach $26 million over the weekend.
The Russo brothers’ 2019 blockbuster returns ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, due on 18 December, with new material linked to the upcoming film. Endgame originally grossed $2.799 billion worldwide, then the second-highest total behind Avatar’s $2.9 billion.
A24’s Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, opened second with $8.49 million. Brad Pitt’s The Heart of the Beast took third with $7.45 million.
Resident Evil fell to fourth with $6.9 million, while DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island rounded out the top five with $4.38 million.
