Three pedestrians were killed in Old Dhaka’s Bangshal area on Friday when the railing of a five-storey building collapsed during the earthquake that shook parts of the country.
Bangshal Police Station duty officer Ashish Kumar Ghosh confirmed the incident, saying the victims were passing by when the structure gave way in Kosaituli.
The identities of the deceased were yet to be confirmed. Police said the bodies were recovered and taken to a hospital.
The collapse followed a 5.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi at 10:38am. Reports from across the capital said several buildings leaned during the tremor.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre was located seven kilometres from Ghorashal in Narsingdi at a depth of 10 kilometres.
