Steps have been taken to introduce 100 more “pink buses” promptly to facilitate the commute of female students attending schools and colleges as well as working women, as the existing 14 pink buses operating across 13 routes have proven inadequate.

This information was disclosed on Sunday during the maiden meeting of 13th Jatiya Sangsad Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday.

The meeting was presided over by committee Chairman and Jatiya Sangsad Whip Rakibul Islam.

During the meeting, committee members were briefed on the overall activities of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and its subordinate divisions and departments. Discussions were also held regarding the ministry’s plans and measures taken to bring discipline to roads and highways.

To prevent road accidents, discussions focused on identifying risky bends and accident-prone areas to straighten and widen them. It was further informed that necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure “straight line” designs in newly undertaken projects.

In addition, the committee recommended that the ministry take initiative to arrange an on-site inspection to review the current status of the modern luxury resort constructed on 72 acres of land in the service area of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.

The meeting was attended by the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, alongside committee members Lutfor Rahman, MP; Md. Ruhul Amin Dulal, MP; Mohammad Akteruzzaman, MP; Newaz Halima Arly, MP; Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, MP; and Md Motiar Rahman, MP.

State Minister for the Ministry’s Bridges Division Md Rajib Ahsan also joined the meeting on special invitation.

Also present were the secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division, secretary of Bridges Division, senior officials of the ministry, divisions, departments, and agencies, as well as concerned senior officials of the Secretariat.
