The global smartphone market is heading into a busy 2026. After a slow few years, makers are now racing again with foldable phones. AI features are also getting big attention. Apple, Samsung, Google and Chinese giants all have different plans. But their goal remains the same. It’s to win users with fresh designs and smarter software.
For Bangladeshi users, this means more choices and a wider gap between premium and budget models. However, prices may also rise due to the cost of AI-enabled chips. Here’s what each major brand is expected to bring next year.
Apple
Apple is planning a big change in 2026. Apple has been launching all its new models at a single major event in the middle of the year. But according to Bloomberg, starting next year, Apple will split its launches into separate events. Premium models like the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and the most anticipated ‘iPhone Fold’ may arrive in the usual September window.
The cheaper and mid-range models could come later, even in the first half of 2027. A potentially refreshed iPhone Air might also be released in the second half of the year. That could mean fresher sales and less rush for suppliers.
Samsung
Samsung is also pushing further into foldable phones. Leaks point to multiple new Z Fold models next year. The company is yet to release its first-generation tri-fold, which could drop any day now. One of these foldable phones could even try a square inner screen, which they call the Wide Fold model. It is believed to be Samsung’s answer to its biggest rival, Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold.
Samsung’s S26 series is also expected to bring some big changes. Reports say Samsung may use its own new Exynos chip again in some markets and others will get Snapdragon. The company is also planning to put more AI features into the phones.
Google (Pixel)
Google will expand its mid-range A series in early 2026. The Pixel 10a is rumoured for March. The phone may use a slightly tuned Tensor G4 chip. After ditching their iconic camera bar with the 9a, the 10a might also come with the sans camera island. Like this year, the company will continue to focus on AI tricks rather than raw specs. The Pixel 11 series may include upgraded cameras, a new low-light video mode and AI tools that let you tweak lighting after recording. Next year could also mark the first time the company ships a different chipset in a Pixel A series compared to the mainline series.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi is planning a busy year with its 17 series. The phones are said to use the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. On the Pro and Pro Max, the company introduced a ‘magic’ second rear screen, just like a mini foldable. Rumours about the 17 Ultra point to satellite connectivity, so it could make calls or send messages when there’s no signal.
OnePlus
OnePlus is taking a sharp turn for its next flagship. The brand is ending its long-term partnership with Hasselblad and building its own image engine. Their software will run OxygenOS 16 on Android 16. This will add more AI features. However, rumours suggest they’re skipping foldables for now.
Huwaei
Huwaei is betting on bold hardware in 2026. Leaks suggest vertical foldables, a Pura series and a second tri-fold device. The company is also improving its AI features. Rumours suggest the foldables may even use AI for automatic page-turning or camera tricks. Political limits may still affect its global reach, but the company will remain a strong competitor in China and other Asian markets.
Oppo and Vivo
Oppo and Vivo are focusing on camera power, AI features and foldable experiments for the upcoming year. The Vivo X300 Ultra may become the first phone with two 200-megapixel cameras. It could use AI to improve photos, adjust exposure and even enhance zoom. Oppo’s Find X9 Ultra will likely come with a 7,000 mAh battery, upgraded cameras and AI tools for smarter photography.
Both brands are also exploring foldable designs. Oppo may add new hinges and flexible screens. Vivo is testing foldables with AI-driven display adjustments.
Realme
Realme is moving fast into higher tiers. The company is rolling out Realme UI 7 (Android 16). Insiders point to very large battery phones in 2026, with some leaks even mentioning 8,000-10,000 mAh batteries. The company is trying to mix long battery life with thin bodies. Regarding foldables, the company said last year that it shelved its foldable project because of cost and durability concerns.
Next year looks exciting for phone lovers across the globe. Foldables and AI features will lead the way, with big companies entering newly in the race. Big batteries, better cameras and sleek designs are coming. However, premium features may push prices up. Still, next year promises something exciting for everyone.
