Around 70 students from East Delta University (EDU) visited Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) to gain practical knowledge about capital market operations, trading systems and investment processes as part of an academic learning programme.
The Business Administration students took part in a study tour titled “Understanding Business” at the CSE office in Agrabad, Chattogram, on Thursday, according to a CSE press release.
The programme was organised as part of CSE’s investor education initiatives following guidance from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, the capital market regulator.
CSE Managing Director M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar said a developed capital market requires greater knowledge, skills and professionalism among all stakeholders.
He said students need practical exposure alongside academic learning to understand the technical and regulatory structure of the market.
“Through today’s training, you have gained practical knowledge about capital market activities, trading and settlement, investor protection, surveillance and the use of technology,” he said.
Mazumdar said CSE has continued to play a leading role in developing Bangladesh’s capital market and has taken an initiative to establish a commodity derivatives exchange, which he described as an important milestone for the market.
He told students that the capital market provides opportunities for investment as well as raising new capital for business expansion.
CSE General Manager and Head of Risk Management Division Md Mortuza Alam said today’s students would become future investors and key participants in the capital market.
He encouraged students to gain knowledge about market operations, conduct research and acquire practical experience during their academic years.
Alam said opportunities in the capital market extend beyond investment, allowing people to work as entrepreneurs, consultants, trainers, planners and professional observers.
EDU Business Administration Department Professor A Kayum Chowdhury said CSE has played an important role in the development of Bangladesh’s capital market, including its initiative to establish a commodity exchange.
He said the study tour could serve as an initial step for students interested in participating in the capital market in the future.
During the programme, CSE officials briefed students on existing and upcoming capital market products, financial planning, investment risks and returns. They also discussed market structure, trading mechanisms and investor protection.
CSE Head of Training and Awareness M Sadek Ahmed delivered a presentation on capital market operations and practical management.
Students later took part in a question-and-answer session with CSE officials and expressed interest in participating in future training programmes, workshops and awareness activities related to the capital market.
