The Dhaka American Women’s Club welcomed artists, collectors, philanthropists, and members of the diplomatic and cultural community to the Crystal Palace Hall at Gulshan Club on Tuesday for its “Women in Art” fundraising event.
Presented by MAYA, the evening featured a silent auction and reception celebrating emerging and renowned women artists in Bangladesh, while raising funds for nonprofit organisations supporting women and children across the country, reads a press release.
Now in its fourth edition, “Women in Art” has become one of DAWC’s signature initiatives, bringing together art and philanthropy while creating greater visibility for women artists and strengthening support for community organisations working across Bangladesh.
The evening showcased works by 35 established and emerging artists, including Ekushey Padak winners Kanak Chanpa Chakma and Rokeya Sultana.
Curated by Rumana Habib, the collection highlighted the diversity, creativity, and growing influence of women within Bangladesh’s contemporary art landscape.
The participating artists included Afroza Akhtary, Aida Cader, Alia Kamal, Aparazita Rahman, Asma Akber, Azizee Fawmi Khan, Fareen Ahmed, Farhana Afroz Bappy, Faria Hossain Tuly, Farzana Islam Milky, Farzana Rahman Bobby, Gulshan Hossain, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Kuhu, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Mst Shaila Akhter, Mukti Bhowmick, Nur Munjerin Rimjhim, Nusrat Jahan Nazlee, Omi Islam, Preema Nazia Anadaleeb, Priyan Iqbal, Rebeka Noman Neela, Rebeka Sultana, Rehana Yesmin, Rokeya Sultana, Rubina Akhter, Ruposhree Hajong, Samia Rashid Hai, Saria Saguaro, Shahreen Hussain, Shakirun Nahar Kanon, Sharmin Akter Lina, Suborna Morsheada, and Vinita Karim.
Alongside the auction, guests participated in a panel discussion titled “Beyond the Canvas: Women Shaping Art & Culture.” Panelists included Nusrat Mahmud and Tayeba Begum Lipi, one of Bangladesh’s leading contemporary artists and co-founder and trustee of Britto Arts Trust.
Lipi’s work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum, Tate Modern, Kunsthaus Zurich, the Venice Biennale, and documenta fifteen.
The event was presented by MAYA, whose partnership supported this year’s celebration of women artists, cultural dialogue, and philanthropy. As one of Bangladesh’s leading natural wellness brands from Square Toiletries Limited, MAYA is committed to celebrating the nation’s art, culture, and heritage.
“Women artists in Bangladesh are shaping important conversations locally and internationally. Through Women in Art, we hope to celebrate their contributions while creating impact beyond the gallery through support for women and children’s programs,” said Ambreen Lakhani Miraly.
All proceeds from the evening will support nonprofit organisations working to improve opportunities and outcomes for women and children across Bangladesh.
The evening was also supported by Eastern Bank PLC as sponsor of the event, together with Artefactum, which served as the art partner.
Founded in the 1970s, the Dhaka American Women’s Club is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to community engagement, cultural exchange, and charitable fundraising initiatives supporting women and children in Bangladesh.
