Escalating hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel have sharply heightened tensions across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict with potential global repercussions.
Foreign ministry sources confirmed that no Bangladeshi casualties have been reported so far amid the ongoing crisis.
The government has, however, expressed deep concern over the safety and welfare of Bangladeshi citizens living and working in the Middle East following the latest escalation of hostilities.
Continued tensions, along with the suspension of air traffic and closure of airspace in several countries, have disrupted travel plans and left many Bangladeshi migrant workers bound for Middle Eastern destinations stranded.
In response, Dhaka has contacted relevant governments and requested that stranded Bangladeshi nationals – particularly workers awaiting deployment – be allowed entry once the situation improves.
Authorities said several countries have already provided assurances of cooperation regarding the entry of Bangladeshi citizens when normal travel operations resume.
The government has also introduced domestic measures to assist affected workers. Special arrangements have been made at airports across Bangladesh to accommodate stranded passengers and address their immediate needs as travel disruptions continue.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh has taken precautionary steps to ensure the safety and security of its diplomatic premises in Tehran.
Measures have also been implemented to safeguard diplomats, embassy staff and Bangladeshi students currently residing in Iran. Officials said the situation is being closely monitored through regular communication with the Bangladesh mission in Tehran.
The government expressed regret over the breakdown of diplomatic negotiations and voiced serious concern about the escalating hostilities in the Middle East.
Reaffirming its long-standing foreign policy principles, Bangladesh stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries in the region.
The statement emphasised that conflict cannot deliver lasting solutions and reiterated that dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to international law remain the only effective means of resolving disputes.
Bangladesh also urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid further escalation and immediately pursue diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation.
Reiterating its consistent position, Bangladesh reaffirmed its support for peace, stability and security in the Middle East and called upon the international community to intensify efforts to restore calm and promote constructive dialogue among the concerned parties.
In light of the evolving situation, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kabir and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam held an emergency meeting in the evening to review developments and assess possible implications for Bangladesh.
Officials said the government remains vigilant and prepared to take further measures if necessary to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi citizens abroad.
