Alexander Isak scored twice inside the opening 10 minutes as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town 2-0 to claim their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday.
The Swedish striker gave Liverpool a dream start at Portman Road. His quick double put the visitors firmly in control before Ipswich had time to settle into the game.
Isak opened the scoring in the sixth minute. He then struck again just three minutes later to make it 2-0.
Cody Gakpo provided the assists for both goals. The Dutch forward has now assisted all three of Isak’s Premier League goals this season.
The double continued Isak’s promising start to the campaign. He had also scored against Nottingham Forest in Liverpool’s previous league match.
Liverpool controlled much of the game after taking the early lead. Ipswich received strong support from their home crowd but struggled to find a way back into the contest.
The match also saw Bradley Barcola make his Liverpool debut. He came off the bench shortly after the hour mark.
Isak had endured a difficult first season at Liverpool following his £125 million move from Newcastle United in August 2025. Injury problems prevented him from producing his best football consistently.
But the striker believes he is now getting closer to his best after a proper pre-season.
“It was not easy. It was a long injury, a difficult season in general,” Isak told Sky Sports after the match.
“That season is kind of behind me, but it was not easy.”
Isak also praised Liverpool’s fast start against Ipswich.
“We were talking about starting the game well, which we have not done recently. And we did that with two goals,” he said.
Liverpool saw out the rest of the match without conceding to secure a 2-0 victory and their first league win of the new campaign.
