Everton scored deep into added time to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.
United twice took the lead in the second half. But Everton fought back on both occasions and found their second equaliser just before the final whistle.
The first half produced few clear chances. Both sides struggled to find space in attack.
Marcus Rashford was United’s main threat. He caused problems down the left, while Thierno Barry missed Everton’s best chance with a header.
The game changed quickly after the break.
United took the lead in the 48th minute through Bryan Mbeumo. He drove inside from the right before firing a left footed shot into the bottom corner.
Everton tried to respond and brought Jack Grealish into the game from the bench. His arrival gave the hosts more energy going forward.
Their pressure finally brought an equaliser in the 83rd minute.
Tyrique George received the ball on the right side of the box and smashed a powerful shot past Senne Lammens at the near post.
United needed only a few minutes to regain the lead.
Benjamin Sesko won the ball in midfield before Bruno Fernandes moved the attack towards the left. Luke Shaw then delivered a cross into the box.
Sesko met it from close range and scored in the 87th minute to make it 2-1.
Everton kept pushing for another equaliser.
Deep into added time, Grealish helped create another attack down the left. Noussair Mazraoui made a tackle inside the box, but the loose ball rolled towards Ainsley Maitland Niles outside the area.
Maitland Niles struck a superb shot from around 25 yards. The ball flew into the top corner to make it 2-2 on his Everton debut.
United barely had time to restart before the referee blew the final whistle.
The late goal completed a dramatic second half and ensured Everton took a point after twice falling behind.
