Paris Saint Germain’s poor start to the Ligue 1 season continued as Monaco came from behind to claim a 2-1 win at Parc des Princes on Saturday.
PSG took the lead through Marquinhos in the first half. However, Monaco responded after the break through Nazinho and Stanis Idumbo to complete the comeback.
The result left defending champions PSG without a win from their opening three league matches. Monaco, meanwhile, moved top of the table with nine points from three games. They are the only Ligue 1 side still holding a perfect record.
The defeat came on the same day PSG announced that coach Luis Enrique had extended his contract until 2030.
PSG went ahead in the 31st minute. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sent the ball across the six yard box and Marquinhos bundled it into the net.
VAR checked whether the Brazilian had used his arm before allowing the goal to stand.
It was Marquinhos’ second goal in two matches after he also scored in PSG’s 2-2 draw against Lille.
Monaco had to wait until the 58th minute for their first effort on target. They made it count.
Jordan Teze delivered a cross and Nazinho headed home from close range to make it 1-1.
The visitors completed the turnaround in the 72nd minute.
Idumbo created space on the left side of the penalty area before firing a powerful shot into the net from a tight angle.
PSG could not find an equaliser as Monaco protected their advantage and secured all three points.
The defeat increased the pressure on PSG after a difficult opening to their title defence. They have now gone three league matches without a victory, while Monaco have won all three of theirs.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Lyon claimed a 3-1 home victory over Auxerre.
Felix Bacher and Zachary Athekame scored for Lyon in the first half before Cameron Archer pulled one back for Auxerre.
Ernest Nuamah then scored after the break to secure the victory for Lyon. He finished the match with a goal and an assist.
