Bangladesh’s women’s team have been fined five per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Women’s Asia Cup Group B match against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Sunday.
Match referee G.S. Lakshmi of the Emirates International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Bangladesh were found to have bowled one over short of the required rate once time allowances were taken into account.
The penalty was handed down under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers minimum over-rate offences. Under the regulation, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to complete within the allotted time.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning a formal hearing was not required.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Humaira Farah, along with third umpire Saleema Imtiaz and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
The sanction comes after Bangladesh’s campaign in the Women’s Asia Cup, where they faced Sri Lanka in a crucial Group B encounter in Dubai.
