Angelina Jolie has revealed her mastectomy scars publicly for the first time in a powerful cover shoot for Time Magazine France. The Oscar-winning actor fronts the inaugural edition of the magazine’s French edition, which was unveiled on December 15.

Photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg, Jolie appears on the cover in a low-cut top, looking directly at the camera with the scars from her double mastectomy clearly visible. Speaking to the publication, she said she chose to share the images in solidarity with other women. “I share these scars with many women I love. And I am always moved when I see other women share theirs,” she said.

Jolie first disclosed in 2013 that she had undergone a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carried a genetic mutation that significantly increased her risk of cancer. She later underwent a double oophorectomy in 2015. Her decision to make her medical choices public was widely credited with encouraging women around the world to seek cancer screening and genetic testing.

In her interview with Time France, the actor also spoke about the importance of access to healthcare. She said access to screening and treatment should not depend on financial means or place of residence.
The photoshoot includes several images beyond the cover, including a stark black-and-white close-up of the 50-year-old actor and a softly lit wide shot showing her seated alone in a room. The debut issue of Time Magazine France also features an interview with the US Ambassador to France, Charles Kushner.

Jolie is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming film ‘Coutures’, directed by French filmmaker Alice Winocour. The film, which is scheduled to open in French cinemas on February 18, 2026, reportedly explores themes that echo Jolie’s own experience with cancer.
