A clash between students of Chittagong University and local residents broke out around midnight on Tuesday, near the university’s Gate No 2, involving chase-and-counter chase and brick-throwing incidents.
While visiting Chittagong, the Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Professor Dr AFM Khalid Hossain, visited Chittagong Medical College Hospital at 11 pm on Monday to inquire about the condition of the injured students undergoing treatment following the incident.
The Religious Affairs Adviser spoke with the injured students and their family members. During the visit, he instructed that there should be no shortcomings in the medical treatment of the students and assured that those responsible for the incident would be brought to justice.
The adviser stated, “Chittagong University is a centre for the pursuit of knowledge. No opportunity will be given to any miscreants to use this incident to further any new conspiracies.” As per the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, various administrative teams will patrol Chittagong University and nearby areas. He urged both students and locals not to violate Section 144 imposed by the administration.
Present during the visit were Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, Director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital; Dr Kazi Saiful Islam Azim, Additional Director (Administration); Dr Debaprasad Chakraborty, Additional Director (Finance); Associate Professor of Chittagong University’s Law Department Saeed Ahsan Khalid; District Executive Magistrate Sakib Shahriar; and the Adviser’s Personal Assistant Ikramul Haque, among others.
