The Ministry of Labour and Employment has requested the police to seek Interpol red notices against three garment factory (RMG) owners who fled abroad without paying their workers’ dues.
The factory owners, who are defendants in multiple legal cases, are currently evading the country. Following directives from the Ministry based on ongoing court cases, the Police Headquarters has submitted a formal request to Interpol Headquarters to issue red notices against these individuals.
A letter signed by Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters Ali Haider Chowdhury was sent to Interpol authorities. Ali Haider Chowdhury confirmed the information on Monday night.
According to Abdul Malek, public relations officer of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the request to issue red notices has been made against Shahadat Hossain Shameem, managing director of TNZ Group of Companies; Itemad Ud Daulah, chairperson of DIRD Group; Nabeel Ud Daulah, managing director of DIRD Group; and Mamunul Islam, Managing Director of Roar Fashion Limited.
The Ministry stated that these individuals face legal proceedings related to violations of labour rights and other relevant laws. The government has taken this initiative to ensure workers receive their rightful payments, to hold the factory owners accountable for their negligence, and to facilitate the return of the accused from abroad.
