Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin emphasized on September 1 that ensuring fair trade in Bangladesh would involve the identification of unnecessary trade-related regulations and a thorough review of the rules governing trade.
Speaking at the ninth meeting of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC), organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Bashir underscored that such measures would improve trade facilitation across the country.
The meeting, held at the BIAM Foundation Multipurpose Hall in Dhaka, saw Bashir highlight that the goal of these reforms was to create a “level-playing field” for trade, which would enhance both the volume of trade and the nation’s economic capacity.
“We aim to establish justice through trade facilitation, which will contribute to a fair-trading environment. This will not only increase our trade volume but also bolster our economic standing,” said the Adviser. He further noted that the establishment of an efficient trade regime would bring significant national economic development and provide a platform for equitable resource distribution.
In line with these objectives, Bashir pointed out that the government is focused on reducing tax evasion while fostering greater efficiency within the trade sector. He also highlighted the ongoing automation of customs operations, which, he said, would streamline both imports and exports, making the entire process more efficient.
