No LPG shortage in Bangladesh, operators assure govt

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) operators on Monday assured the government that there is currently no shortage of LPG in the country.

They gave the assurance during a meeting with Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud at the Secretariat.

During the meeting, the overall situation of the country’s LPG sector was presented and reviewed.

According to data received from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh imported 157,760 metric tonnes of LPG in August 2026 and 118,742 metric tonnes up to 22 September 2026.

Based on the data presented at the meeting, LPG supply and stock levels in the country were found to be satisfactory. LPG importers and operators said there was currently no shortage of the product.

The energy minister urged operators to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers despite adequate stocks and warned against any attempt to create public suffering through artificial shortages or hoarding.

The operators assured the minister of providing all possible support from their side.

The minister also heard about various challenges faced by operators in running their businesses and instructed the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to take steps to resolve the issues quickly.

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said the ministry would provide all-out support to remove barriers to LPG imports.

He assured that necessary measures would be taken to make people’s lives easier and sought cooperation from all stakeholders to keep the country’s energy situation stable.
