Dr Md Abdul Halim, a professor in the Department of Botany and provost of Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, has been appointed as the new proctor of Jahangirnagar University (JU).
Concurrently, Prof Md Jakir Hossain of the Department of Philosophy, who submitted his resignation, has been relieved of his proctorial duties.
The appointment and discharge were announced in an official order signed by JU Acting Registrar Dr ABM Azizur Rahman on Thursday.
According to the order, Prof Dr Md Abdul Halim will temporarily discharge the duties of Proctor from the afternoon of Thursday, October 1, 2026, until further notice, receiving customary allowances and benefits as per university rules.
The order also directed the outgoing and incoming proctors to submit their duty handover and takeover certificates to the relevant authority in due course.
Following his appointment, Dr Md Abdul Halim said, “We will work collectively, with the cooperation of students, to maintain a peaceful environment and discipline on campus. I hope the campus discipline situation will remain even more peaceful in the coming days.”
