A Qawmi madrasa teacher has been sent to jail following his arrest on charges of sexually assaulting a school student under the pretext of giving religious lessons in Habiganj town.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Maulana Sadekul Islam, is a teacher at Jannatul Mawa Qawmi Madrasa located in the Rajnagar area of Habiganj town. He is the son of Rabbani Mia from Pirijpur village under Kurshi Union in Nabiganj Upazila.
According to source details, on Wednesday night, Sadekul trickily brought a class six student of “The Roses School” in Rajnagar to his madrasa under the guise of imparting religious education. He allegedly sexually assaulted the student during the night and threatened him not to disclose the incident to anyone.
A heated situation arose after the student informed his family about the ordeal. Local residents subsequently assisted police in detaining the teacher from the madrasa premises on Sunday night at around 10pm.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahidul Haque confirmed the arrest and legal actions.
A case was filed regarding the incident by the victim’s father, Abdur Rauf, hailing from Sangor village in Baniyachong Upazila. Maulana Sadekul was produced before the court on Monday afternoon, following which he was sent to jail.
