Police have arrested 15 leaders and activists of the banned Bangaldesh Chhatra League (BCL) while they were cutting a birthday cake for Sheikh Hasina at the Dhaka residence of fugitive former Awami League MP Showkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon, representing Barguna-2.
Uttara West Police Station officers detained them at around 5.30pm on Monday and took them into police custody.
Rezaul Karim, deputy commissioner (DC) of Uttara Division, confirmed the information on Monday evening.
He said activists of the banned Chhatra League had gathered at the fugitive former MP’s residence in Sector 7, Uttara.
Upon receiving information, police conducted a raid at the location and arrested 15 individuals. The senior police officer added that preparations were underway to file a case against them.
Station police said the group had assembled after organising a cake-cutting event on the occasion of the birthday of deposed Sheikh Hasina.
Having detected their plan, police detained the Chhatra League leaders and activists and took them to the police station. Police informed that a case will be filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
